In June 2023, construction began on a 120-metre, 11-span precast plank bridge designed to maintain road access to the iconic Archer River Roadhouse in Cape York during the wet season. Due to its remote location, this project presents unique challenges, as it can only be
constructed over two dry seasons, requiring meticulous planning and time management.
Kilcomer Group has been heavily involved with our client in developing temporary works designs, managing logistics, and overseeing FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) rosters. Given the limited access and tight construction window (July to the end of November during the dry season),
we have focused on innovative solutions to meet the project’s demands.
Our contributions include:
• Designing temporary works and welding solutions.
• Providing skilled FRP crew, boilermakers and riggers to prefabricate and install reinforcement for the bridge’s substructure.
• Accelerating the construction program by optimizing resources and workflows.
This challenging project has being completed in November 2024, reflecting our commitment to delivering infrastructure solutions that overcome even the most demanding conditions.
